A plant-based diet is a nutrition pattern that is based on plants and contains little or no animal foods.

Here are some of the things to look out for in a plant-based diet:
  • Vitamin B12 is an exception. This nutrient cannot be obtained from plants. You need to get it from fortified foods or a supplement.
  • Plant-based eating can reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and some cancers and help you manage your weight.
